About Beck’s Broth
Beck’s Broth produces bone broth products and partnered with Conestoga’s Food Research & Innovation Lab (CFRIL) to support the development of a new dry powder product as the company expanded its retail reach.
The challenge
Transitioning from a frozen liquid product to a dry powder format requires packaging that protects product quality while supporting retail distribution. Beck’s Broth also needed shelf-life data to better understand product performance under ambient storage conditions.
Approach
- Conducted a real-time shelf-life study on the dry powder product
- Developed packaging concepts for case-ready retail presentation
- Provided packaging design support and industry connections for commercial implementation
Results
- Generated data to inform shelf-life recommendations for product commercialization
- Developed a case-ready packaging design for the dry sachet product
- Recommended secondary and tertiary packaging solutions for distribution
- Supported Beck’s Broth’s transition to a shelf-stable product format
Why it matters
- Supports the commercialization of a novel food product
- Improves confidence in product quality and shelf-life performance before launch
- Helps manufacturers select packaging suited for retail distribution
- Creates opportunities to expand product offerings and markets
- Strengthens packaging and product development for growing food businesses
