Kinectrics has been actively involved in conducting outage activity transport monitoring surveys at nuclear power stations for several years, utilizing their advanced tool, the Advanced Dose Exposure Tool (ADEPT). ADEPT represents an innovative solution for outage activity monitoring, harnessing virtual reality (VR) technology to provide detailed 3D visualizations of dose rate fields and isotopic activities. With the help of VR, ADEPT allows users to navigate virtual job plans and receive real-time dose estimates aligned with their planned tasks.

To harness the full potential of ADEPT's VR capabilities, Kinectrics collaborated with Conestoga’s SMART Centre. This research project resulted in the development of an intuitive graphical user interface (GUI), representing a multi-phase effort dedicated to enhancing ADEPT's VR functionalities. The SMART Centre, working alongside Kinectrics, introduced key features that empower ADEPT users to efficiently handle tasks such as opening and importing project files and data, refining settings, launching the application, and even creating a user-friendly main menu and an extensive tutorial within the VR application. As a result of these improvements, users can now access information more swiftly, enabling them to make critical decisions during the survey process.
