Ian Kurniawan, M.Sc.
Researcher
Ian Kurniawan is a researcher at the Canadian Institute for Safety, Wellness and Performance. He holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Windsor, where he developed a passion for human-centred research while working in a motor control lab. He went on to complete an M.Sc. in kinesiology at the University of Saskatchewan, where his thesis explored how two weeks of leg immobilization affect muscle strength, size, and neuromuscular function.
At the University of Saskatchewan, Ian helped lead the Movement That Matters program—an integrated physical activity and psychological skills initiative for adults living with chronic pain. He worked directly with participants to help them manage symptoms through education and evidence-informed strategies.
Ian is dedicated to translating scientific knowledge into practical solutions that enhance workplace health, safety, and well-being.
