Joy Schnittker, PhD

Joy Schnittker, PhD, is a recent graduate of McMaster University, where she conducted comparative research on public ownership, remunicipalization, and local governance in the United Kingdom.
Her work focuses on democratic accountability and the ways institutional structures and governance models shape citizens’ ability to influence public decision-making.
Her research draws on interviews with municipal officials, public institutions, and community stakeholders to examine how public finance, governance arrangements, and political processes affect service delivery and community wellbeing.
She holds an honours bachelor’s degree in global development studies from Queen’s University, as well as a master’s degree in international relations and a doctorate in political science from McMaster University.
