In 2022, Conestoga ranked as one of the top 15 research colleges in Canada by engaging with close to 80 industry and community partners, starting 85 new projects, and hiring 190 students.

Conestoga contributes to national dementia strategy
The Centre for Health Care Research & Innovation's Open Minds, Open Hearts (OMOH) project was recognized in the Public Health Agency of Canada's (PHAC) 2023 annual report on Canada's dementia strategy. The report highlights funded projects from PHAC that are making a difference in the lives of people living with dementia. The two-year OMOH project facilitated over 2800 interactions between individuals with dementia and post-secondary students, with the goal of increasing awareness about dementia and reducing its stigma among younger adults.
Conestoga launches new social innovation lab
Conestoga College is excited to announce the launch of the Conestoga Social Innovation Lab. The lab will provide a hub for faculty and student researchers developing creative solutions to complex social problems through applied research projects and initiatives. The new lab will provide coordination and support for numerous social impact projects already underway, as well as provide mentorship and guidance for new initiatives from schools and research centres across the college. Led by Dr. Anthony Piscitelli, CSIL works with cooperatives, nonprofts, social enterprises, and change makers to make an impact in the social innovation ecosystem.
Conestoga receives $3 million in funding to bolster innovation
Conestoga has been awarded $3 million over five years from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) College and Community Innovation (CCI) program to bolster innovation in Waterloo Region. The funding is part of a $65.2 million investment through CCI’s Mobilize grant program to support colleges across Canada in expanding applied research capacity. “This funding enables us to provide enhanced research opportunities for students while being more responsive in meeting the region’s innovation needs,” said Dr. Michelle Chrétien, associate vice president, Research & Innovation.
